  1. 10/11

    5 8/9-3 2/3=5 8/9-3 6/9=2 2/9

    4 1/2 * 3/5=9/2*3/5= 27/10=2 7/10

    10/13 divided by 5/4=10/13*4/5=40/65=8/13

  2. 4/11 + 6/11 = (4+6)/11 = 10/11 ... since you have the same denominator... just add the numerators.... that all! =)

    5 8/9 - 3 2/3 = 5 8/9 - 3 6/9 = 2 2/9

... the trick was to change the 2/3 to 6/9

    4 1/2 * 3/5 = (4*2 + 1) / 2 * 3/5 = (8+1) / 2 * 3/5 = 9/2 * 3/5 = 27/10

... the trick was to change 4 1/2 to 9/2

    10/13 divided by 5/4 = 10/13 x 4/5 = (10*4)/(13*5) = 40/45 = 8/9

... the trick was to change from divide to multiply.... and also flip the 5/4 to 4/5

  3. 4/11 + 6/11 = 12/11

four elevenths plus six elevenths equals twelve eleventh.  If the too additives have a common denominator (bottom number), then you can simply add the numerators (the top numbers).

    5 8/9 - 3 2/3

five times ( eight divided by nine) minus three times (two divided by three)

the 5 times the eight ninths equals 40/9.

the 3 times two thirds equals 2.

    so...

    40/9 - 2/1

you need a common denominator.  so multiply 2/1 by 9/9

    now its

    40/9 - 18/9 = 22/9

    4 1/2*3/5

    four times (1/2) * 3/5

four times one half = 2

    2* 3/5 = 6/5

    10/13 divided by 5/4

to divide a fraction by a fraction you actually flip the denominator (5/4) to its reciprocal and then multiply the two numbers

    10/13 divided by 5/4 becomes

    10/13 * 4/5= 40/ 65

    simplifies to 8/13
