  3. The law of exponents is the same whether the exponent is a whole number or a fraction. If the base is the same (e.g. x and x) and you are multiplying as in the above equation, the exponents are added together. Add 1/3 + 3/5 to get the exponent of x. I'll let you do that part. :)
