Simplifying a short equation?

Does (x(x+1)/2) + 1 simplify to (x^2 + x + 2)/2?

I thought it was (x^2 + x + 1)/2 but the solutions guide has the first answer?

  1. (x(x+1)/2) + 1

    = (x^2 + x)/2 + 1

    = (x^2 + x + 2)/2 => That is right

    Find LCM that is 2

    now, multiply 1 by 2 => so it's 2 not 1

    the answer is the same coz when you simplify the first you get

    (x^2+x)/2 +1  and if you make the whole thing out of 2, you get the second so your answer is right

  4. yes, because the addition of the ones work together, and those ones would add together to make two in your equation.

    (x(x+1)/2) + 1= (x^2 + x)/2 + 1

    and then they just moved the 1 inside by multipling it by 2 so

    (x^2 + x)/2 + 1= (x^2 + x + 2)/2
