Newcastle United defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 Simpson is targeting a win against Manchester City this weekend when the current English champions travel to St. James’ Park, and hopes to add to their suffering.
The right-back is looking to cause a further dent in City’s title ambitions this weekend following their last weekend’s defeat against Manchester United. Manchester City had been undefeated in the league going into the game against fierce rivals and title
contenders Manchester United.
City had suffered a double blow last weekend as they saw United end their undefeated streak and inflict their first home defeat in almost 2 seasons.
Newcastle on the other hand lie in direct contrast, with only 2 wins in their last 10 games. The Magpies have gone from top 4 contenders to potential relegation battlers, with only 2 points adrift of the relegation zone.
Simpson is confident that Newcastle have the ability to cause an upset against the reigning English champions. Speaking to reporters, the right-back said:
“We have only beaten Tottenham at home and we are due to upset one of the big teams, so let’s do it against Manchester City. We believe in ourselves, in the manager, staff and fans. We just have to keep doing what we are doing."
“City must come to our patch. They will be disappointed after the derby defeat but at the same time they will want to bounce back. We have nothing to lose, so we just need to give them a tough game. City have not lost two Premier League games in a row since
October 2010 and have now slipped six points behind United.”
The player admitted that the game will be a difficult encounter, but is confident that his side can defeat them if they work hard and have the fans in support. The player said that it has been some time since they managed a victory over City, and insisted
that it was about time they ‘turned things around’.
Simpson also refused to get concerned with the team’s league position, and said that it does not paint a true picture of their performances. He is confident that the team will recover and move up the league table.
