Sims 2 custom content disappearing after turning game off and back on?

I downloaded some objects/lots from the Official Sims 2 site. When downloading I clicked on save and saved it in the right Downloads folder. It had the person icon and I double clicked it and installed it while the game is off. I logged into the game and the items were there but the next time I logged in the custom content warning screen came up and the items were missing even after clicking enable content except for the Lots were still there. I checked the game options and the custom content was enabled. I tried reinstalling them again and had the same problem happen. I downloaded the Content Manager and still have the problem. I only downloaded the stuff created by Maxis. I have the Sims 2 Double Deluxe. How can I fix this problem?

When you click to enable the custom content, you must exit the game for it to be active.  You can disable the pop up by going into your game options menu and clicking on 'disable pop up'.
