Sims 2 & expantions not completely installing, help.?

ok, i have windows vista & i know thats the main problem why the sims 2 isnt working, but i tryed installing the sims 2 & it went fine but when the menu was loading it just wouldnt continue. it froze. i dont understand, i did "run as the adminastrator" & set the compatability to "windows XP service pack 2". it doesnt work :[ after that, i tryed to instal sims 2 pets & it instalation went great until at the very end it said "pls insert sims 2 dvd" im like what dvd i dont have sims dvd. pls help.
