Question:

Sims 2 keeps crashing and freezing my computer?

I have Nightlife, University and Open for Business installed.

I have CC from the exchange and MTS2 only, with the exception of a few meshes from other trusted and well-noted sites.

When in build mode (I don't recall it happening otherwise), I will be clicking and dragging, like with the wall, floor, or other such tools, and the game will stop the animation of the clicking and dragging. It will stop all together, the music continues playing, etc, but then it will never finish the action. My mouse then freezes, and when I try to click, it makes a beep sound.

It is at this point that I realize the entire computer has frozen.

I play in windowed mode. When this happens, the mouse doesn't turn into my regular desktop mouse when I scroll over the bar at the bottom. D: what's going on??

  1. Mine does that i think its because of us downloading off of the internet plz vote me best answer thanx!

  2. that used to happen to me when i played it on the laptop, my thoughts why were because it wasnt really built for games (although a new laptop and it could handle them) possibly something in it wasnt big enough. I dont understand computer stuff enough to beable to tell u if yours is no good for playing big games like sims.

  3. Your specs seem fine so it sounds like you have downloaded some custom content that is incompatible with your game. This is particularly true if you download stuff off the Exchange. If you download off the Exchange you will download with your prepackaged Sims and houses hacks and other content that you don't know is included and which will probably sooner or later crash your game.

The first thing to do is to go to your Downloads folder, right-click and choose cut. Now go to your computer's Desktop, right-click, and choose Paste. This will physically move your Downloads folder to your Desktop, preventing the game from reading any of the files in it.

In addition to the Downloads folder, your SavedSims folder may also contain custom content that can cause problems with the game. You need to also remove it as well. You'll find it where you found your Downloads folder in My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2. Do the same thing to it as you did to the Downloads folder. Now both folders are on your desktop, try loading your game.

If you the game works fine without your custom content then the problem is likely within one of the two folders you removed - Downloads or SavedSims.

You just need to use common sense and a bit of know-how to try and find out what the problem files are and remove those only. It may be time-consuming but at least you won't lose all your families and houses. Complete and easy to follow instructions on how to find the problem files can be found here: http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title...

If the game is still crashing, then the problem exists inside your user files. An easy-to-follow guide to testing without user files can be found here:http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title...

  4. this is one of the best  illustrated  awnser i have  sene here in ages for that alone i salute thee

unfortunaly  the  problem somewhat eludes me an di can only advise the usual things

your a bit low on ram  so  that might be the problem  ..doubt full   your computer is more then well enough equipped  to run  the sims 2

update your drivers of  your video card to the latest version

remove the downloads to see what happens

the worst case scenario is  that you have to  back up your  sims 2 folder  and reinstall the sims 2 then check if the new game  works as it should

games  can  misbehave after a while

from the sound if it it hangs  on something in build mode

after  your done with that just copy  your backed up sims 2  folder  in to the ea games map  and  click  yes if windows asks about overwriting
