My son just rented Sims 2 Pets, and he has NO idea what the concept of the game is or what to do. Any help?

I've rented this game and it was the worst 3 dollars i've ever spent. The game has no point. There's no storyline to the game! Its impossible to train the dog, and you can never keep your motives up. I would say, take it back and get another game.

The Sims is my favorite game series. But this game dissapointed me alot.
