Sims 2 problem, help please!?

Okay I have a gateway laptop ... windows XP and I have had the sims 2 for quite some time and it has worked fine until a few months ago, it just started freezing all of the time here are the places where it freezes mostly:

-loading up create a family

-in the middle of creating a family

-the loading screen after I make a family (which ticks me off especially because I lose the families I made

-the loading screen to go to a household

-the loading screen for neighborhoods

and sometimes it just does it in random places, I have these expansion packs

-pets

-nightlife

-open for business

-university

I have already tried reinstalling my sims game,I deleting all of my custom content, and deleting all of my bg tasks b4 I play and none of this works.

I had a similar problem. I would let me play for a while, but every time I tried to save it died. My problem was a corrupted file. Did you uninstall and then reinstall or just reinstall over it? Try to completely uninstall everything(even your saved games) then reinstall again.

Have you tried running a virus check or clean your harddrive??? That usually helps. I once had that problem and all I had to do was do a virus scan.
