Sims 2 question? Please help?

I'm about to install the Sims 2 Pets (mac) on my MacBook Pro. I've read in many places that I need to "back up" my game files for the original game so the data isn't hurt. Is this true? And if so, how do I do it for a MAC?

  1. the expansion packs tell you to back up your game data before you install only because if you ever want to uninstall, your files would then be unreadable if you didn't back the game up. you don't have to re-install the sims.

i've been playing this game for a while, and everything functions just fine if you don't back up your game before a new expansion pack. but to be fair, i've never removed the expansion packs and then tried to play the base game (which unless you back up, isn't possible). if i've removed the game it was because i wiped my hard drive (for various reasons).

unfortunately i use a pc, so i'm not sure how to back up a mac. i would follow what the first guy said; it seems to be right, and makes sense to me.

  2. its a macintosh not just mac

go to  your documents folder and look for the ea games folder   copy the sims  folder to your desktop or your documents  and thats pretty much the back up

for a more secure back up   burn it to a cd  or dvd  and there  you go

this works  with every version of the game

each new expansion pack  saves  the game in its own format  so a save for pets wont work with the base  game

to put a save  back  first install the game and  run it once

then  quit and copy  the sims 2 folder form your back up dvd cd rom  flahs drive whate ver to the eagames folder

when mac os X  asks if  you want to replace the folder with the same name click yes

and thats all there is to it
