  1. I'm sorry I don't have any better info for you on this, but I have been trying to get it installed on my computer for years.  It continually fails, or tells me that I have a "corrupt cabinet file" or I need to get Direct X 9C up and running on the computer.  I gave up and now we use my wife's laptop for Sims 2.  I have tried everything to get it to work and no luck.  Good luck, if you do get it worked out post it as you'll be a hero

  2. sad sad indeed.

im sorry to say that i too have been afflicted with the exact same problem--- several times in fact.

i find this to be primarily an issue that mostly occurs among the sims 2 expansion packs which require the installation of two disks or more. For example, Open For Business, i never have a problem installing that whenever i need to. None of the stuff packs i have cause me any grief either. but when i try to install university, it usually gets somewhere around to the *.* support file and then starts wigging out and shows me the same "a problem has occurred" message you get.

when this happens, the only advice i can offer to you is to hit retry. if you get the same message about the same file, cancel the installation, and try again. sometimes you have to restart your computer too.

What i've learned in this situation is that it just takes a little tenacity, and a LOT of patience. I have always been able to get all of my expansion packs (every single one out) to install properly in the end, simply by continual retries.

i cant offer you any specific fix to the problem, as i have yet to single out the cause myself, it just seems to be something that happens when it feels like happening, and fixes itself when its tired of it.

    ***UPDATE***

So i rebooted my computer ...like... last week, and so all my sims were lost and i had to re-install them. This error that you're talking about happened with university, seasons, and pets for me. Ive been trying for the last 5 days, count em, 5 days, to re-install university. i just kept hitting cancel because i didnt have the patience to deal with it at the time.

but i got home today around... 1230 p.m., and decided that i was determined to install my missing installation packs. so i popped university in at around 1, and at 5:30, after many many many MANY error messages, to which i retry on all of them, the expansion pack successfully installed.

so all i can say at this point, is dont give up, and good luck

  3. Also keep in mind Sims 2 won't run or sometimes even install on old computers I had to get a new computer before sims 2 would run on mine.

Just letting you know if you didn't know already.

It really could have nothing to do with your question.
