It is now 5:30pm and he has only had a few 10 minute naps since about 2 am this morning. I have not had any sleep. He has eyes wide open and does not even look sleepy. He is not happy unless i am holding him, If i put him down he cries, And its not because he wants a feed or nappy change, he is still having his feeds as he normally does. He just wants to be held. Will he be OK with him not having any sleep? I just don't understand how he has stayed awake for so long....

  1. He might be going through a growth spurt or just need some extra holding. I realize it is frustrating, but it is normal. Hang in there. I scheduled my kids and that helped a lot. So it is good he is eating normally. Try to get some extra help for a few hours so you can sleep. Congrats on the new one. Hang in there. You'll wake up one morning and realize your baby is 16 years old and driving. Sweet dreams I hope for you and the little one.

  2. I had my baby the same day July 21th. And guess what? She has been awake since  6 am. It is now 1:30 and She finally feels asleep!. I'm thinking that she just want to feel me . Your baby will be fine. I haven't had any rest either. Good luck

  3. Have you heard of colic? He may be suffering this if he constantly wants holding and is crying. You can buy infacol or gripe water to help you LO overcome this.

How are you feeding? My daughter was like this at the begining when we came home. I was breast feeding and as it was, she wasnt getting enough from me, so we swtiched to formula and from around 3-4 ish weeks, she sleeps for 7 and a half hours at night - absolute bliss!

  5. My 6 week old does the same thing.  The other night i was so tired i had to lay on the couch or fall over.  I put her on my chest, she fell asleep almost instantly.  i think she was overtired.

  6. If you've got a car seat and a strong pair of arms, put the baby in the car seat (put a dummy in his mouth if you use them) and swing him back and forth like there is no tomorrow and he'll go off to sleep. My Daughter does the same thing and she is now 12 weeks, 2 nights ago she woke up for the day at 3am and didn't go down for a nap until the following lunchtime. I honestly just think sometimes they are either over tired or get night and day confused. Your Son is still very young to be in any type of set sleeping pattern so try not to worry. As someone else said, he'll sleep when he is ready but if you're desperate for him to go off to sleep then try swinging him or take him out for a drive in the car.

  7. Yes. He will sleep when he's tired. My babies a lot of times will only fall asleep in my arms. Try swaddling him and placing him against your chest.
