They have so many traditions that weren't a part of the origional church. Why did they create so many traditions if they don't believe that god tells them to do anything?

  1. who told you we don't believe in Revelation??!  Of course we do, we even have classes on this..please has anyone that asks these questions met a catholic or read anything about us?  Just wondering, i don't know anything about a lot of religions and i don't regard things i have "heard" as a reason to judge them.

  2. All those man made traditions were just made up.

    Very, very sad.

  3. Maybe like indulgences?  Enough cash long enough ago and you can do whatever you want, right?

  4. Many people criticize mormons for believing in prophets and revelation, it's biased to say Catholics alone.

As it is, Catholics do believe in revelations given from God, but many people come the the Church speaking that they have had a revelation from God. The Church has to go through thousands of pages of paperwork and proof before they will even think about naming someone Blessed (the first step to Sainthood), how much more paperwork and proof do you think they go through to say that something is a *true* revelation from God?

The Church uses what we have and know about Oral and Scriptural Tradition to judge these "revelations" to see if they are from God or not. Some have been shown to be from God, some have been shown to be from some other source (i.e. demons, mental illness, Satan) and some cannot be proven one way or another at this time and are still under investigation.

We do not say there is no revelation after the Apostles, that's actually a Protestant belief to go against Apostolic Succession (they say the forgiveness of sins and other gifts given by the Holy Spirit died with the Apostles, thus no Apostolic Succession). We believe that the Church is alive and she grows just as any person would, but her essence remains the same, thus we learn more as we grow older.

  5. I'm pretty sure they believe in Revelation, but I will say this.  The Catholic church has some strange things happening.  Like they change the day of the Sabbath supposedly with the power of the Holy Spirit.  Some past saints are no longer saints, they declare that supposedly through the power of the Holy Spirit.  Even the fact that they believe the pope is the closest to God, pretty much making themselves lowly is pretty bizarre to me.  The biggest is the pope being infallible.  I think the Catholic church is the equivalent to the U.S. Government...they both blow smoke up your butts and hope you believe it.

  6. We do believe in revelation that comes through the Church. God "reveals" his truth through his Church.

We do not believe that private revelation is meant for all. But we do believe that a person can have private revelation meant specifically for them.

What traditions do we have that weren't part of the original church? There is a difference between what is considered sacred tradtion (that which was handed down from the Apostles) and what is normative Catholic practice. There are things we traditionally do that are not sacred tradtion and are not Catholic doctrine.

  7. I don't understand the Catholic religion. Is there somewhere I can go to learn more about it, how they believe and so forth. I hear so much about them, but don't know what is true and what isn't.
