Atheists don't believe there was a supernatural force guiding evolution.  There was no intelligence or lack of intelligence, because there simply was no being.  Evolution is a natural process.

Put simply,

Genes are inherited.  Mutations = diversity.  Better genes = better chance of survival and reproduction = greater percentage of these alleles in the population = evolution.

Yes!  Un-intelligent design is what happens when people preach intelligent design.  Fortunately most main stream churches reject ID, only Evangelicals and Fundamentalists carry on with this drivel.  One major problem is that ID carries the stain of predestination with it, and then we have the issue of sin/free-will, and how can God judge when he has doomed some before birth.  Nevermind.

There is no "design", because there is no "designer", get over it! Any "God" capable of deliberately designing all this wouldn't have done such a crappy job.  A series of random mutations and a system of "survival of the fittest", however, would have produced exactly the sort of diversity we see today...
