Since family isn't supposed to be a part the politics, then why did the McCains highlight...?

...their adopted daughter at the RNC last night?

This comes on the heels of us saying that the Palin pregnancy is a 'non-issue'.

So, why is ok to EXPLOIT (yes that's what it is!) the McCain's adopted daughter? Why is THAT situation ok to use as a 'platform' to show 'character'?

If we're going to complain about excluding family in politics, it should be done across the board. No positive OR negative stories should be brought up.

  1. Because he thinks that's fine, and his own campaign came out with Bristol's pregnancy, and then they expect people to just not voice their opinions. That to me sounds more like censorship!

  2. I want to know a little about a candidates background.  But after that, it doesn't mean much.  If a party wants to talk up a candidate's family life to get a vote or two, no big deal, but also not very effective.  It is also very different from trashing a candidate's family, don't you think?

  3. Your right.  For that matter, if they wanted to highlight family values as a part of their campaign, they're kind of screwed now thanks to Palin.

Part of the conservative argument is the protection of the traditional family structure.  What hypocrites.

  4. You are absolutely correct.

The Republicans are the ones taking political advantage of the pregnancy among prolife voters.

  5. For the same reason they won't let Palin talk about issues tonight.  She disagrees with McCain on many issues and is a liability if she starts discussing her feelings.  Has there ever been a president before has only been out of the country once?

  6. So Obama "exploited" his kids when they came out on stage last week?

And Biden "exploited" his kids when the DNC ran so many stories about how Biden dealt with the loss of his wife?

    No.

Obama is proud of his kids. Rightly so.

Biden is proud of his boys. Rightly so. And the DNC is proud of the way Biden stepped up to the plate as a single dad. Again, rightly so.

And the McCains are proud of their daughter, and the party is proud of the fact that they've adopted a child that otherwise would have gone without parents.

Being a proud and responsible parent is fine.

Dragging a 17-year old girl through the mud for political gain is not.

If you can't see the difference, I can only hope for your sake that you neither have a child or ever run for public office.

Nice try. But logic trumps your argument.

  7. what about Obama's daughters being showcased  on the stage at the DNC, or does that not apply here as the same thing? to bad liberals can't ever realize that when you scream and cry foul, you should make sure that the shoe wasn't on the other foot ten days before.

  8. You're right.  If the adopted daughter is spotlighted, so should the unwed pregnant teen daughter ...

  9. Their rules are: Good Republican family... OK

    Bad Democrat family... OK

    Anything else... Not OK.
