  1. I knew a Thai called Supharp and he said that he was so wild and disrespectful as a teenager that when his mother was dying she made him promise to become a monk which he did for 10 years.  He said it changed his life and he was grateful for the experience. The monks taught him healing techniques which he used on the workers in our factory when they had problems. He said he was taught to help people with them--the common people who were poor and working hard.  The Buddhist monks were the ones in Burma who laid their lives on the line when the dictators there raised gas prices so  much that the poor could not afford to get to work.

  2. I think same as going in the Army it gives structure and discipline and makes them good little robots.

  3. I see Buddhism is more like a practice way of life rather than a religion that you worship something and have faith in it. So in Buddhism practice is the most important thing. One can practice without being a monk, but while in the present society, it's too difficult so it becomes traditional for male to be ordained at one point of time in their lives.

Simply, to practice the ways of Buddhism. What do they experience? Peacefulness within oneself.
