What do you think about Steve Taylor's abortion clinic bombing satire? Essentially the song is about an ice cream man who blows up an abortion clinic so he won't run out of customers.

"Now I don't care if it's a baby or a tissue blob,

But if I run out of youngsters, I'll be out of a job,

So I did my duty cleaning up the neighborhood,

I blew up the clinic real good."

He said that his true opinion of the matter came out in the lines "Preacher on the corner calling it a crime, says the end don't justify the means anytime." He got in lots of trouble over this, though.

Anyway, I'm interested to see if people who think that rape is funny will also think that bombing abortion clinics is funny as well.

  1. I'm not sure about George Carlin's rape satire but it was probably funny considing it was Carlin. That doesn't mean that rape in general is funny. It's not. But there's nothing wrong with making a serious thing such as rape or blowing up an abortion clinc into something funny. With all the f..ck.ed up and sad things that happen in the world we might as well make them into something to laugh about. It's better than walking around feeling crappy about it all day. Geez, develop a sense of humor.

  2. I didn't see the Carlin bit but I am pro-choice and I can still see your song as funny.

  3. “Just cause you got the monkey off your back doesn't mean the circus has left town.” George Carlin

"Apparently you've never been raped or sexually traumatized or you would be disgusted by this video. There is nothing funny about this clip. I'm glad that you haven't had the life experience it takes to realize this is repulsive." this was your answer to the question. Have you been raped or sexually traumatized? Did you watch the video? By the way it is not "rape is funny" it was "rape can be funny". George Carlin was controversial and pushed limits. How can you not laugh at "picture porky pig raping elmer fud" thats funny... He is not promoting rape he is laughing at the rapist not the victims. "It all depends on how you construct the joke" George Carlin...

By the way regarding your music video that does nothing for anyone its not the same thing... but I also am not extremely offended by it. Not enough to rant about how you know nothing if you haven't had one...

"If it's true that our species is alone in the universe, then I'd say the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little." Again George Carlin.

  4. Well first Carlin's routine wasn't specifically about rape. It's about censorship and he's using a hot topic to demonstrate his point.

That being said, yes terrible thing happen in this world. Yes we suffer through horrible things but we can't take ourselves too seriously. Sometimes we have to step back and laugh at ourselves and the world around us.

There are TONS of things that SHOULDN'T be funny.....but they are.

  5. I don't waste my time looking for things to be offended by. If you do not like a particular song, TV show, whatever turn it off and find something better to do with your time.

  6. I think that it is wrong this song is bad. Kids listen to this. It not funny to talk about killing or bombing things.

So if someone said it's OK to rape beat and kill all woman would that be funny. No, because if someone where to do those things it would be looked down on. So if you bomb a clinic you still kill the people inside so that makes you a murderer as well. I think people need to think of better things to sing  or talk about. If you want to sing sing about the good things that can be done but not about what is that you as a person wish you could do because you disagree with something, people dieing is not a joke.

  7. the carlin thing was funny. The song wasn't. It's not because of the topic at all. It just isn't funny.

  8. The commentary was not about rape being funny - it was social commentary on people censoring others.  And that we should be able to discuss anything....

  9. if you are easily offended or sensitive to these subjects then my advise would be to steer clear... I think that hints at the point that Carlin is trying to make... we should be free to talk about things, just as people are free not to partake.

  10. The song is just stupid, and I didn't even listen because I was too bored.  As for George Carlin, he was being EXTREMELY sarcastic.  You have to understand sarcasm to know that he was really, throughout the piece, making fun of rapists, and not rape, per se.  He is also big on free speech.

  11. I have no problem with it. If he actually did it, that would be a different story.

  12. What's funny to some is misery to others.
