  1. The restrictor plates are only used on the tracks (Daytona & Talladega) where there is the possibility of MAINTAINED speeds of over 200mph, including through the corners. Because the track is so tight, with sharp 90 degree turns and also so flat, the cars cannot maintain speeds of over 200mph, so restrictor plates are not necessary.

  2. The track is to flat to run 200+mph all the way around it.

  3. The banking of the corners does greatly enhance or reduce speeds in the corners. Tracks like Talladega & Daytona have significant enough banking that, if unrestricted, would allow the cars to drive at 230 mph into the turns.

Indy though, the corners are mostly flat, so the amount of speed one can carry with the NASCAR race car & particularly the new COT is reduced, hence no reason for a restrictor plate.

Its not the track length that dictates the use of a restrictor plate, its the speeds its generates, or where NASCAR feels the need to reduce the speeds, as was the case at New Hampshire at one point. Following the deaths of Adam Petty & Kenny Irwin Jr, they issued the usage for the next race, which Jeff Burton led flag to flag.

  4. Because unlike Daytona and Taledega, IMS is a basicaly flat track where the drivers must lift in the corners unlike the other restricter plate tracks that are high banked in the turns the cars are flat out all the way around without the plate the cars would probably be traveling around 230 mph

  5. The cars do not have the abilty to go 200 all the way around the track.

  6. They cannot carry the same kind of momentum at Indy that they can at Talladega and Daytona.  The relatively flat corners there keep the speeds down and therefore no restrictor plates are needed for that purpose.

    3 STR8 N 08!!!

  7. Because the turns are different than like DAYTONA.

And with the COT, it will be safer.

  8. no high banking which reduces speeds

  9. Because it has very little banking.

  10. It's way too flat to drive into the corners at nearly 200 mph.

  11. It is not a high banked speedway. The turns are banked only 12 degrees, you you have to get off the throttle, and/or brake, unlike Talledega for example.

  12. Its flat, no high banking like 'dega and daytona..

    GO Dale Jr & Hms

  13. because of the banking and the fact that you cant run it wide open all the way around it.
