aren't the breakaway groups the real Mormon church in effect?

And isn't the church that changed its practices just so it could get statehood for Utah the real breakaway group?

  1. Not really. The original Mormon church has always believed in following both the laws of the land and also the laws of the church. Because the leader of the country and also the leader of the church officially denounce polygamy, the church has to follow that.  The groups that breakaway are not following the president of the church and are, therefore, the breakaway groups.

One of the fundamental teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is that they believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.  The mainstream church will support those laws that govern our society.

The breakaway groups that try to use religion as a protection for their beliefs, cannot use the beliefs of the Mormon church as their basis, because the Mormon church specifically teaches against those things.

  2. Not really. The church did not stop polygamy so that Utah could be a state it came as a revelation to stop, and other things and no we are not the really breakaway group.

  3. That is like saying that those who left the Catholic church because it stopped the Latin mass are the true Catholics.  Perhaps in their own minds, but there is more to being Catholic than Latin.

  4. BOTH group stemed from the same first few prophets...The FLDS broke off in 1930, because they still wanted to practice polygamy here on Earth as per the teachings of Joseph Smith and Brigham Young!

The LDS church believes in polygamy in the Celestial Kingdom (highest level of mormon heaven) and not here on Earth .....

Single mormon women that die will be sealed to a man that already has a wife. ALSO if a temple going married (sealed). If his wife dies, he can be sealed to another woman and have them both in the celestial knigdom....

Brigham Young said you are damned if you deny polygamy.

"Now if any of you will deny the plurality of wives, and continue to do so, I promise that you will be damned." (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 3, p. 266).

The FLDS just never gave it up and kept following the olden days of the mormon church...

IT is EARTHLY LAW vs HEAVENLY LAW...with mormonism.

Thats what the big fuss is about!

  5. It is a good question.

It seems that the ones who broke away from it were the ones who stayed with it.  LOL
