Good for Italy being in third place for total all time Gold medals. A good showing from a relatively small country.

China is in 15th place for all time gold medals.

its a bit hard to measure as 'countries' have changed a bit.  For instance there is a medal count for the former soviet union but now that it is no longer one country Russia and former soviet states are separately totalled.

but the USA has almost as many medals as the the 2nd 3rd and 4th place 'countries' combined.
