If the Stars somehow pull out a win tonight does Babcock speed up the progress of Franzen for Game 7?If the Stars somehow pull out a series win do we hear about Holmstroms' "Non goal" in Game 4 like we do from Buffalo's "No goal" in '99 for years to come?

  1. Are they definitely not playing Franzen in Game 6?  I mean they don't need him but it would be nice to have him.  They won in Dallas without him.  The Wings just need to start strong and watch their butts.  And I'd sure remember that call for years.

  2. If Babcock pushes Franzen back in if he is not ready it could backfire. not just in this series but maybe into next season

and if the Wings cant win without Franzen then they some serious issues to contend with

i'm with Nips on the pressure front. I'ts all on Dallas at the moment but if the Stars win game 6 i think it shifts to the Wings.

  3. You can't speed it up. It could be career threatning. You can't tush a concussion. The Reid moment and Gibson were different. Neither were career threatning. Nor was Curt Schillings

  4. Babcock speeding up to throw in Franzen......nope, that is something that Philly does......LOL......Kidding.  I think Franzen will have to be recuperated before they put him out.  I am sure Babcock would prefer to have him at the top of his game possibly in the finals.

Yes...everybody loves to complain about the past.  They will call it the "Butt in the Crease" no goal.

  5. Sounds like Franzen wil be ready to go either way. He says headaches are gone and its a matter of getting cleared to play by the doctors. Both MRIs were negative with comparison and he was set to resume playing as soon as headaches subsided. I expect to see him game 7 if neccessary barring any setbacks.

As far as the Holmstrom *interference goal*, it will be considered the turning point. The first team to get a goal in this series has won every game. That would have made the Wings scoring first in game 4 and would have devastated the Stars. Instead, it gave them confidence that no longer would Turco be interfered with and that has happened. Truthfully, I expect to see a different Wings team tonight. They want no part of a game 7. The Wings have closed their last 5 won series in the playoffs on the road!

  6. Looks as if I missed an interesting weekend of hockey!  Hate it when real life interferes with my hobbies....  Hate highlight reels too.

    1.  Hope to see Franzen back before the end of the finals, but I'd rather see him in and at top form than rushed back before he's fit. I think he's been dangerous to the opposing teams because his hot streak came so late in the season, so while a lot of teams knew to shut down Zetterberg and Datsyuk, he's been a bit of a dark horse.  I'd say it's wrong to think we can't win without him.

I also hope that we don't need a Game 7, but it's kinda scary!  Though I'm happy for Turco that his Joe Louis jinx is broken, did it HAVE to be NOW?

    2.  The no goal?  You win some of those calls, and you lose some.  Sometimes, as NIPS points out, that becomes a turning point.  I hope we won't go on and on about it, butt perhaps memories will be long.

    djup6 - LOVED the funnies!

  7. Considering that Franzen is only taking "light work outs" then I think it will be unlikely that he would make a Game 7 (if it goes to a game 7).... the league and teams listen to medical experts on concussions (which it sounds like Franzen had) and they don't want to take a chance that a player could get hurt more.  It's just the right thing to do to keep him off the ice.

Now as far as the Holmstrom "non-goal" if the Stars win this series:  SOME people will always trot that out and those people will ignore the fact that in Game 1 Holmstrom got away with it.... Just like a lot of people forget that in '99 the Stars were dominating (not overwhelmingly but still dominating) the series against the Sabers and there were other goals in that Finals.... Some people will cling to whatever they have to to ignore reality.... but for the most part, I think the majority of hockey fans (maybe not Wings fans) will legitimately say the Stars won the series if that happened.

  8. As far as Franzen, if he's not ready, he won't go.  Detroit should still be able to win without him.  Unless Dallas is destined to fulfill the 33 year prophecy.

In regards of Holmstrom's no goal: OF COURSE we'll hear about it. Ranger fans still complain about Denis Potvin's clean hit , and Flyers fans still yap about Leon Stickle.

  9. it's amazing how fast players can heal if thier team needs them, if the Stars win tonight I promise you Franzen will play in game 7. As for the no goal, as a stars fan, the 99 no goal was a goal, as it should have been. But the no goal in game four was a bad call.

    djup6-those pic's made me lol

Yes his foot was in the crease, but the rule at the time said it was ok if he had possession of the puck, which he did

  10. * I don't think babcock wants Franzen to play at all if he's not feeling good. Sure he would like him to play, but Babcock always stresses on the guys and their health. I'm really hoping the stars don't win it tonight, cuz Detroit will be in BIG trouble.

    * I don't think we'll hear about it, I mean it was a B.S call and any NHL fan could've seen that, but that won't be the reason we lost the series.

  11. I think NIPS hit the nail on the head....

And yes that no goal is bullshit. If the Wings lose because of that I am gonna complain about that until the day I die...or until the Wings win the cup again.

I am confident the Wings got it in the bag though. To quote U of M running back Mike Hart, "Sometimes it's just like when you're playing your little brother in basketball," Hart said. "You let him get a lead and let him get excited, but then you take it back from him."

Sorry Joe LOL, I'm an MSU fan too. I will be attending MSU next year actually.

  12. I would say yes to both, unfortunately we will probably never hear the end of the no-goal.

  13. Ah, the no goal of 99.  I remember it like it was yesterday.  Those were my glory years of growing up in Upstate NY.  What a debacle.  To this day one can spark a nice arguement about that in Western NY.

I think Franzen will only play if he is physically capable of being one of the best 12 options up front.  If he is symtom free and can go all  60 he will be in.  If any doubt remains, you need to dress another player that is close to 100%.

  14. Detroit is a good road club too. I am almost happy they have had these two losses to wake em back up. I see them going into Dallas tonight and closing out the series.

It would be nice to see Franzen back, but I agree with those that posted Babcock will not put him back out there unless the doctors agree. I am really impressed with Helms....boy is he working hard.

  15. I think so, you've got to have your best team on the ice for a deciding playoff game, thats where legends are made, Franzen could be the Willis Reed of the Red Wings.

I don't think it will be as big only because that goal came in the finals, but it would certainly allow for some major bellyaching from Wings fans for some time to come.

**Yeah, that's never really talked about, I bet Wings fans would rather he looked more like Kirk Gibson.

  16. I don't think Babcock will put Franzen in unless he is 100 percent or very close to it if there is a game 7.  Babcock first alliance is to the health of his players and he seems like a classy enough guy to do the right thing.  Realize we have had Stu Barnes out for this series with the same thing and he is not going to play unless he is true healthy enough to go in.  He might not be a big scorer for our team but he is easily the best penalty killing forward on our team.  He would have been very important in all three of the games we lost.

If the Stars do win the series, I sure hope the Holmstrom goal will not be a like the 99 goal.  In my opinion the Holmstrom goal was the wrong call.  It should have been a goal.  However, the Holmstrom goal from the first game shouldn't have been a goal either.  Perhaps it was message to send that he needed to stop interfering with Turco.  The refs should have given Dallas a 5 on 3 or if they were trying to do a make up call.  That would have been ,more fair to both teams.  I mean it would have been fairly easy to call a 5 on 3 with all the stick holding that I have seen from Detriot.  Not like Dallas hasn't gotten away with a few calls, but I am so tried of seeing all these Dallas sticks seemily glued under Detriots arms.
