Why in God's name do they allow the various groups to associate with each other when gang violence is the #1 problem in prisons today? I just don't get it. Why let them all out at the same time? Why not house them in separate pods and and not allow them to mix with the others?

  1. I'm sure it's very common for people to have the attitude that anything what makes prison more unpleasant is okey fine with them.

But I think it makes prisons into training centers for criminals.

Most people in prison won't spend their whole lives there.  If they're socialized in prison to deal with a violent, gang ridden prison society, they're going to transfer what they learn to their lives outside.

  2. Maybe they don't care or have the funding, equipment or facilities for all that extra regulation.

  3. But then what would Bravo show every night?

  4. uhmmm.......where i come from and the jails i been in DO SEGREGATE GANGS! check your facts and don't take everything you see on t.v. as true.

  5. they have no space...

  6. I'm not convinced that they are all released at the same time, but they are very hard to separate.  In the late 1970's, California Prison officials separated several prison gang members by placing them in different facilities all over the states.  All they did was contribute to the spread of the gangs, because the inmates formed their own chapters when they arrived at their new prisons.  Prison officals do try to keep the gang members all together with their own gangs and away from rival gangs.  This lessens the tension between gangs.

  7. 1.the authorties don't care and hope they will just wipe each other out

2.It all comes down to money and cost. it cost around $60,000 per prisoner to keep per year.

3.the laws say you can not discriminate by singleing out people of ethnic or different back grounds etc.

  8. Some states prohibit segregating inmates based on race and ethnicity. Most gangs happen to be "ethnic gangs" so it would be illegal to separate them. California supreme court said that Civil Rights Legislation can also apply to prisons.
