Question:

Since we are in the same climatic cycle that has lasted before time, not as dramatic, will we adapt or evolve?

For example, The dinosaurs had about a 600 million year stretch and no evolution into different organisms, just the same repetitive traits in different scale.

But when America is underwater again and the poles are the tropics, estimates are about 500,000 years

All of us would probably be tan, a few white and a few black but, maybe all red like the Indians again?

Are we evolving or just adapting?

Yes i understand the old evo theory, not sure what the new one is if there is one.

  1. Its hard to say... records prior to 1900 are pretty sketchy. By examining the fossil record scientists are able to extrapolate climactic conditions during the ages, while this is the accept theory, it is by no means infallible, just the current scientific norm. Many scientists believe we are actually devolving and with current world affairs its hard to disagree. Maybe that's the future. Either way my money is on the human race to be well extinct by the time the poles switch polarity!!

  2. Dinosaurs lived for 600 million years without evolving? That's flat wrong.

Also incorrect is your idea that adaptation is distinct from evolution. Adaptation IS evolution; it's not speciation but there's more to evolution than making new species.

To answer your question - we definitely WILL evolve over the next 500,000 years, whether we speciate or go extinct is impossible to say.

  3. We are a very clever species,  I bet we will survive whatever the weather might throw at us.  If it gets too warm a lot of people will simply move to Antarctica. Or even the equator  if conditions are better there.  Suppose the climate gets so bad it kills 5 billion of us.  That will leave the billion who are smart enough figure out how to survive that humans of all races and even mutts like my grand children to carry on
