I know there is already a professional organization of players but there should be a league with teams:

West

Los Angeles

San Francisco

Seattle

Portland

Houston

Dallas

Phoenix

Denver

East

New York

Boston

Philadelphia

Washington

Charlotte

Atlanta

Miami

Tampa Bay

Give me team nicknames for these cities.

  1. i agree with previous post.  i would just make it a coast thing like san diego, miami, honolulu, l.a., daytona, myrtle beach and it might have a chance. volleyball for me is like baseball, i love to play but dont like to watch, except for 2 on 2 beach volleyball

  2. That would be awesome if there was a NVL.

  3. Where there is a demand, there's a supply.

    Investment, market.

    No profit, no business.

  4. The key to a professional sports organization is not the teams or the nicknames but the fans.

Do you really think there are enough people interested to pay money to watch volleyball on a regular basis?

I would not be one of them. And I suspect there is not an audience out there strong enough to warrant a professional structure,

  5. The closest that they have come to a National Volleyball League is the AVP, a pro beach volleyball league. I don't think that there is a large enough fan base for indoor volleyball to be profitable entertainment. I am a volleyball player myself and I really don't think enough people truly understand the game enough to watch it on a regular basis.

  6. You have to be realistic. The only way a league survives is if it is profitable. Can you get men to pay $10 to see a bunch of men in little shorts jump up and hit a ball? Can you get women to do it and not have feminist up your behind as if you are consipated? You may can (there is a women college volleyball league) or may can not (only g*y men watch other men play volleyball and there is not enough of them to support a league I believe.) With all the problems, I do not think you can have enough support for a professional volleyball team. If you could, someone would of had tried it.

  7. I agree with the first post. The MLS can barely survive in the U.S. and it is THE most popular sport throughout the world. I think we have our four major sports, and then NASCAR, Golf and Tennis -- and I think that about spreads the sports entertainment dollar pretty thin here in the U.S.

A professional volleyball league? You have got to be joking. And are you talking about men's or women's? Because professional women's sports have had absolutely no success here in the U.S. -- even with a talented and somewhat well-structured league like the WNBA.

No one would want to watch women play volleyball outside of the Olympics; and the only reason I would watch men play in a professional volleyball league is to laugh at them. Or to hear the story about how one player is still trying to break into the NBA, so he's playing in the new NVA...

  8. I would love to see a national volleyball league.  That would be very cool and I would buy season tickets in a second if it was near me.

Unfortunately, it has been tried and failed.  About 5 or 6 years ago, they tried a four team pro league in the midwest (I want to say there were teams in Minnisota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Ohio, but I am not sure exactly).  It lasted for about 2 years and was advertised in Volleyball Magazine all the time.

I think that is certainly one of the major areas for indoor volleyball in our country, but they only drew about 350 people to each match.  They had plans to expand to 6 teams, but their sponsors pulled out and the league disbanded instead.  It was unfortunate, they were drawing some of the bigger names (Division 1 all americans) to play, but it just did not catch on.

I hope they try again soon.  Like I said, I would certainly be there in a second.

  9. I definately think there should be a NVL!!!! That would be awesome!! And i kinda disagree with everyone else!! I would pay money to watch professional volleyball!!  It probably wouldn't be as big as basketball and football but who cares!!  It would get bigger and it would be sooo awesome!!

That was a good idea!! I've always thought of that too!!
