Since when are double medals not awarded?

So Nastia didn't get gold because they say she tied with the Chinese girl, and the tie-breaker gave it to China because the IOC doesn't allow ties anymore...

Well...it would help if the IOC was consistant. Take a look at the results of the women's 100m...

1) Shelly Ann Fraser - 10.78 secs (GOLD)

2) Sherone Simpson - 10.98 secs (SILVER)

2) Kerron Stewart - 10.98 secs (SILVER)

Two people tied for silver in the women's 100m and both got silver medals.

What's the problem with awarding two gold medals in an event that the judges said two routines were equal (even though they were not equal. The judge from Australia made an error and should have deducted more from the Chinese girl's score)?

The Americans are getting royally raped in gymnastics....

  1. because they can't afford for more ties

  2. I was wondering the same thing because a double bronze was awarded to both Jason Lezak and Cesar Cielo Filho at the 100 free finals in swimming. Maybe there is a different rule for double gold being awarded, but I don't know. I wasn't really paying too much attention when they were explaining that. But it might be because they can not give out double gold.

  3. Clearly you don't know much about the sport. The tie breaking rule was in effect before the olympics began and weren't just made up on the spot, so you really can't complain about Nastia and He both not getting a gold, since 2005 when the new scoring was made this is the way that tie's have been decided. This stupid new scoring rule applies to everyone, including the Chinese. Only Nastia got unlucky. But it could have happened to He too. I bet even the judges won't know which athlete would be the first one who will benefit from this new rule. Anyway, when the rules were modified, representatives from USA also voted for it. The rule was not made by Chinese, nor just for this event. Even Nastia herself accepted this results after because she knows the rules. Next time maybe she will be the lucky one, God knows. He got the average three B  judges' deductions of .933. and Liukin got .966 He wins.

In the women's 100m, if they had rules about a tie breaker than that would of played out, but they don't, in gymnastics they do, rules are rules.

  4. it was recently, in the last 11 years

  5. I agree.. Shawn Johnson was robbed of 3 gold medals.

  6. The favoritism towards China, especially in gymnastics, is more than obvious and more evidence that that sport needs a complete overhaul in scoring and judging.

  7. Because it involves China

They will never allow or accept a Tie with the U.S.

    Favour - Host Country

  8. Nastia didn't get robbed...it's called rules / regulations / policies!!! What's the point of rules / regulations / policies if people won't follow!

  9. Apparently this is a new "tie breaker" system introduced into these Olympic games for the gymnastics. Personally, I think a tie should result in two medals awarded.

  10. Double medals stopped being awarded when it stopped favoring china....

China is getting everything handed to them

  11. There was another event where there was a Gold winner, Silver winner, and 2 Bronze medal winners. I believe gold is the only medal not given out to two competitors. The men on vault tied for gold, but they had to do two vaults so the person with the highest on a single vault won.
