Since when did freedom of speech include freedom to disturb the peace and break the law?

Are we allowed to just say anything we want to whomever we want and ignore the rules of a public forum just to spew whatever we want without having to take any personal responsibility for our actions? If so, when did this bastardization of free speech become enacted?

  1. I know that your a law an order man Dan. I think that its unnecessary to taz a wuss. I also think that after the police shot that man in New York hit him 45 times out about 96 shots and it turned out he was unarmed and trying to take out his I.D. you might have a problem with trigger happy cops. The Grand Jury no Billed the cops. That sends the wrong message to the police. A couple of month ago her in Austin a police officer shot a guy who was running away from them in the back. I know cops have tough job but they should show restraint when possible.

  2. HEY WHISKEYCHARLIE (ABOVE) YOU BEEN DRINKIN?????

  3. Freedom of speech does not mean the freedom to be heard.

People who are defending the nitwit in FL are clueless. What would happen if someone walked on stage during a concert and insisted on commandeering the microphone siting "freedom of speech" then tried to defy the security guards making him leave? I'll bet the people who wanted to hear the musicians would be real eager to allow someones supposed "freedom of speech" to step on the concert they wanted to hear.

  4. It is not freedom of speech if someone slanders a persons name that is a lie.

People that are name callers ,lie tellers, etc are just trash.Nothing to do with the freedom of Speech as they don't care, and what they say isn't taken seriously unless they want to be in court on Slander.

  5. Well, if you're Conservative, or Republican, then the bastardization of free speech you spoke of is abolished immediately, until some liberal ignoramus opens his mouth to the world, in which case it is fine.

Welcome to the liberal socialistic states of America, that is, if Hilary or some other nut case wins.

  6. how does disturbing the peace justify getting shocked (with a potential to kill) with 50,000 volts.  You could probably justify water-boarding also i bet.  Even peaceful protests (which is our right) are being met with riot police and violence.  The American revolution was technically against the law.

  7. Since people stopped thinking things through and just let their emotions run wild.

Since some people had preconceived notions that the cops were always bad.

Since the mob mentality came into being.

Since the education system fell apart.

It's incredibly sad, what's happening to this country.

    I'm glad I'm not a young man.

  8. The responsibility part of speech often gets left out.  You are guaranteed the right, but it's not entirely "free" and without repurcusion.

  9. an example here would really help.

  10. With the constitution. You don't like it, move to China. Read some of the inflamatory letters between Jefferson and Adams if you want to see peace disturbing inflamatory speech.

  11. Blame the ACLU, who seem to champion the individual rights of the minority (or individual in the case of the Kerry speech tasering incident) over the rest of the law abiding in society.

  12. Assuming this ignorant rant was inspired by the police assault on a college student in Florida, if you listen to the tape, you can hear Senator Kerry yelling to leave the kid alone because he wanted to answer the question.  A better question for you is where does the Constitution authorize the existence of police, or allow them to decide what speech constitutes disturbing the peace?  According to most police the only peace allowed is the one found in cemeteries.  And yes, freedom of speech means being alowed to say anything, no matter how hateful or disgusting, to anyone--especially those in the government.  The cops in the Florida case should hang for treason (giving aid and comfort to the enemies of the nation--as the President has said, they hate us for our freedoms, and those cops were doing their best to limit those freedoms, thus aiding and comforting the enemy).
