I sincerely doubt that Senator McCain chose Governor Palin as his running mate to capture Alaska's three precious electoral votes (which he was assured of getting anyway).

The selection of Governor Palin does reflect McCain's need to energize the evangelical right, and get their money.  The far right are not excited about the moderate McCain.  But Palin fits in nicely with their agenda.
