Question:

Since women are so insecure about their bodies, won't it help if they make the effort to ignore the media?

I've met so few women without body issues, it is sad. Im asking, wont it help if these women who are so insecure about their bodies, to just quit buying Cleo/Cosmo magazines so they can stop comparing their bodies to airbrushed models. To stop paying attention to female celebrities and their latest 'fantastic fad diets' that have made them skinny.

I know it wont solve all of the issues with regards to female body insecurities, but it sure would help somewhat.

Why cant women do that? Whats stopping them from ignoring it the media?

  1. You speak in such general terms! Not all women are insecure about their bodies! Why on earth would you think that? One of the best things we can do is explain to our daughters that these actresses and models are unrealistically thin. Check out any chart for height/weight/body frame and it will show that the majority of these women are *severely* underweight for their height. It may also help to know that many photographs you see are airbrushed to the max to minimize or totally erase any minor flaws that are seen in the "artwork".

A smart girl/woman will look at these magazines or other media and know that it is unrealistic to expect that any of us will ever look like that. Simple. What's stopping them from ignoring it in the media? Themselves. Women need to learn to be secure in their own bodies. A size 0 or 2 is very unrealistic for almost all women.

  2. the media is everywhere, it is hard to avoid at all costs

even on the computer there are advertisements that appear on the screen showing glamourous women

it is however unusual that people will believe that a photo of a women is not airbrushed when it soo obviously is,

women shouldnt look at other people and compare themselves to it, but there is something that tells them to do so,

as many times as someone tells themselves that they will ignore the media, there is almost always a way in!

    from reading the newpaper

    working the computer

even the littlest things are difficult to ignore, nd women do have a tendancy to over think things therefore women will always believe that there is a fault in themselves that could be changed if someone else does not have the fault

as cliche as it is the quote 'Easier said than done' applies here as people do believe that they could do it, only when people try to do they realise how hard it is to do

    hope i helped.

  3. i don't buy magazines but i find it hard to ignore media when its everywhere. tv, radio, film, posters and billboards what are we supposed to do?

i can't help feeling insecure when i see women older than me with great bodies. maybe if they ban models jean size uk 4-8 and stop giving women movie roles if they slim down i might stop worrying

  4. because were curious pple we want to know the latest fad and whats happening i gues they kinda enjoy torturing themselves it gives us something to do otherwise life would be boring

  5. yes.! we live in a society today where beuty is key.. its wat women strive for. think about makeup, botox, implants, ... etc.. they're all things that try to change us to make us look beutiful.. and its bringing peoples confidence wayyyy down.  i think wats stopping them from ignoring the media is that they want to attract guys,, and they know wat looks hot to attract them so they try and look like models.. when they shold rly be happy with who they already are.

  6. The issue is that they intentionally date the wrong men.

I've told women for years that they are beautiful the way they are, and they ignore me and tell me that I am "too nice".  Then they run off with some jerk who verbally mistreats them.

Women in general need better taste in men.  That would be a good start in helping women feel better about themselves.

  7. How do you ignore the media when it is in your face 24/7 tv. billboards, transport, radio, magazines, newspapers...you can try and not look but I would be surprised if it can  be done

  8. While that may help you stop visually comparing your body with that of a supermodel, it's certainly not stopping men from doing that same exact thing to you. I think that media is often pushed toward the guys who in turn push that image on the women. I've met (and quickly ditched) many men over the years who have no problem telling their girl they should get implants or go work out at the gym more, dye their hair to cover gray, etc. Unfortunately, our media shows women must be a certain image and this has become ingrained in our society to a very critical level.
