Sindhu Bhardwaj defeats Harika V. in first round of the 2011 All India Junior Ranking Tournament
Sindhu Bhardwaj, a young and spirited player made her mark over Harika V. in the first round of Girl’s Singles category at the 2011 All India Junior Ranking Tournament, on Wednesday, October 5, in Chandigarh, India.
Sindhu delivered a convincing performance in her opening match and overpowered Harika in a wonderful rubber ser fight which lasted for 38 minutes. The crowd could not have asked for tougher competition as both shuttlers displayed their competitive skills
and maintained the thrill in the whole fight.
In the opening game, Sindhu failed to impressive the crowd as she made many unforced mistakes throughout the set and her shot selection was also wrong. On the other hand, Harika played composed badminton in the first set by remaining focused in the game.
Until the break, Sindhu was trailing behind at 8-11.
Harika remained on the winning track after taking a one-minute break and extended her lead. Sindhu increased her speed at the net to dominate the rallies but failed as her rival was perfect in her stroke selection and execution.
Sindhu lost the opening game without displaying any considerable performance with a margin of 16-21 in 13 minutes.
The following set of this interesting match was quite surprising, as Sindhu came back into the court with a completely different approach. She controlled the pace of the game and started to make her challenger move in all corners of the court. At the end
of the first-half, Sindhu was moving far ahead of her challenger at 11-6.
In the second part, Harika tried to put variations into her strokes but her rival was playing with precision. Sindhu continued her killing run in the second game and bagged it with a 21-12 score by taking just 11 minutes in the court.
In the decider, both shuttlers progressed by remaining neck-to-neck until the concluding phase of the match. Sindhu employed powerful smashes coupled with cross-court pushes and won the set with a tight 21-19 score in 15 minutes.
This entertaining fight finished in three sets of 38 minutes by a margin of 16-21, 21-12 and 21-19.
