Sine wave generator without an IC?

I was wondering, how would someone make a sine wave with a circuit that has only "basic" components? like, resistors, capacitors, transistors, diodes, coils.

You did not say what frequency this generator would operate at, but here is a circuit that will work for relatively low frequencies:
