Sinead Russell and Tobias Oriwol impress in swimming events: Day three – 2011 Canada Cup, Toronto
Sinead Russell of DS and Tobias Oriwol of TSC impressed the arena by winning gold medals in their swimming event on the concluding day of the 2011 Canada Cup in Toronto, on Sunday, November 27.
The 18-year-old Russell and 26-year-old Oriwol clinched gold medals of Women's 50m back-stroke and Men's 200m freestyle, respectively.
At first, Russell proved her eligibility for the crown of single-lap back-stroke event, where she posted an effort of 29.02 seconds for gold medal.
Her fantastic effort was 0.17 seconds below the Canadian mark of 29.19 seconds made by Hanna Kubas of UCSC in 2007. The gold medallist remained 0.57 seconds ahead of Marie Couillard of RIVERAINS, who reached the podium for silver medal by producing a time
of 29.59 seconds.
The third fastest spot of the race was occupied by Genevie Cantin of ROUGE ET OR, who ended her swim in a time of 30.01 seconds for bronze medal. The 20-year-old Cantin was 0.18 seconds ahead of Erin Stamp of GMAC, who settled on the finishing wall as fourth
fastest swimmer by posting a time of 30.19 seconds.
The fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Vanessa Charron of CSQ, who remained 0.08 seconds slower from her former finisher and ended her swim in a time of 30.27 seconds.
Moments later, the arena witnessed an astounding effort of Oriwol in the Men's 200m freestyle, where he posted a time of 1 minute and 51.36 seconds for gold medal. His title claiming effort remained 0.54 seconds ahead of Ray Betuzzi of UCSC, who reached
the podium for silver medal by posting an effort of 1 minute and 51.90 seconds.
The bronze medal of the race was claimed by H Abdel Khalik of TSC, who clocked a time of 1 minute and 52.55 seconds. The third position holder was followed by A Abdel Khalik of ESWIM, who earned fourth fastest spot of the race by reporting a time of 1 minute
and 52.90 seconds.
The arena acknowledged commendable efforts of all participants where as the winners were awarded medals for their immaculate efforts after the session.
