Sinead Russell clinches Women’s 200m backstroke gold: Day three – 2012 Missouri Grand Prix
Sinead Russell of Swim ON served notice of her talent on day three of the 2012 Missouri Grand Prix by earning gold medal of the Women’s 200m backstroke. The meet took place at the University of Missouri Aquatic Center in Columbia on Sunday, February 12.
Missouri is the third stage of seven-stage 2011-2012 USA Swimming Grand Prix Series that offers a chance to elite swimmers to get better before the forthcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.
Russell demonstrated her astonishing efforts in the start, where her quickest dive placed her considerably ahead of her challengers. With her continued efforts, she went full throttle and reached the other end of the pool with an effort of 30.61 seconds.
she was trailed by Hilary Caldwell of Canada, who ended her first lap in a time of 31.13 seconds.
The 20-year-old Caldwell displayed her scintillating efforts in the second lap, where she geared up her efforts in order to outshine Russell, but remained marginally behind her. With her wonderful efforts, Russell completed her first round in a top fastest
time of 1 minute and 03.40 seconds while Caldwell stayed just two strokes behind and covered the equivalent distance with an effort of 1 minute and 03.65 seconds.
The same continued in third lap, where both swimmers remained engage in a neck-to-neck race and Russell once again outperformed her former swimmer by posting a time of 1 minute and 36.56 seconds. she was 0.37 seconds ahead of Caldwell, who ended her initial
150 metres with an effort of 1 minute and 36.93 seconds.
The battle continued in the final lap, where Russell yet again proved her supremacy and ascended on the podium for gold medal by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 09.47 seconds.
She was trailed by Caldwell, who stayed just two strokes behind her and stepped on the medal rostrum by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 09.84 seconds. Barbara Jardin of PPO snared bronze medal of the race by hitting the wall with an effort of 2 minutes
and 11.33 seconds.
Furthermore, the championship ended while the winners collected their accolades after the session.
