Sinead Russell conquers Women’s 200m backstroke heats - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Sinead Russell of BWSC conquered the qualifying rounds of Women’s 200m backstroke on the concluding day of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Sunday, April 1.
The 18-year-old Russell gave no chance to her competitors as she went full throttle in the four-lap backstroke discipline and qualified into the playoff as top contender for gold medal.
With her epic performance, she remained comfortably ahead of her fellow swimmers and occupied top qualification spot of the event by hitting the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 09.63 seconds.
Her invincible effort was chased by Dominique Bouchard of NBYT, who stayed 1.20 seconds slower from her foregoing competitor and appeared on the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 10.83 seconds.
Subsequently, Julia Wilkinson of IS stayed 0.20 seconds slower from Bouchard and earned third finest qualification spot of the event by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 11.03 seconds.
The fourth fastest spot of the race was occupied by Hilary Caldwell of PSW, who remained 0.48 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing wall by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 11.51 seconds.
The 21-year-old Caldwell remained nearly half a second ahead of her following swimmer, Barbara Jardin of PPO and tapped the finishing wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 12.07 seconds for fifth position.
Her scintillating effort remained just 0.01 seconds lucky from her subsequent swimmer, Genevieve Cantin of UL, who touched the finishing end as sixth fastest swimmer of the event by posting a time of 2 minutes and 12.08 seconds.
The seventh position of the discipline was secured by Annie Harrison of OAK, who remained considerably slower from her former finisher and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 14.07 seconds.
She was followed by Tess Simpson of CSL, who stayed 0.39 seconds slower and produced an effort of 2 minutes and 14.46 seconds to occupy eighth finishing spot of the event.
In addition, Russell was overjoyed with her incredible effort in the 200m discipline and expressed her desire of achieving the same in the final round.
