Singapore Grand Prix: F1 drivers tell their tales
Almost every war ends in quite a similar fashion; there is a winner and a looser. The supporters of the winner are seen in celebration and jubilation while there is another side where sadness and desperation shadows. Thus, every battle has a trail of tears
and laughter and so does every round of the Formula One calendar.
As the drivers now return from the fifteenth round of the season, hosted last weekend at the tricky track of Marina Bay in Singapore, there is an amalgam of joyous and gloomy feelings at the Formula One caravan after a brutal fight.
Fernando Alonso:
This victory marked his fourth win of the season and has elevated him to the second place in the charts, thus, further brightening his chances for a third title of his career.
Fernando Alonso expressed delight on the way his team had performed, giving him perfect pit stops in terms of strategy as well as the speed of work. All this made his victory possible, though, he still believes that Red Bulls were faster than him and he
had been lucky to see the chequered flag ahead of Vettel, the Red Bull driver.
Felipe Massa:
The other Ferrari driver wrapped his day at the eighth place after a tough race following poor qualifying. The race strategy for the driver was similar to the one of Alonso in Monaco. However, the Safety Car came in far earlier than expected and Felipe Massa
wasn’t successful in overtaking a lot of cars. Still, he hopes for better luck in the upcoming races.
Jenson Button:
The McLaren driver wrapped up his day at the fourth place after having started from the same. The race did not go clear and easy for him as he initially had a tough time with his rear tires and later also had issues with the rear-end stability. Jenson Button
admitted that his team wasn’t as fast as the Red Bulls but it was already known to them that they would not be competitive on this circuit.
However, he exclaimed, “I go to Japan pretty happy. We've got a good upgrade for Suzuka. We'll have something that we tried to put on the car this weekend but couldn't - for reliability reasons.” Although, chances aren’t that bright but still Button believes
that the difference between him and Webber is just a matter of one race win, which he claims isn’t impossible.
Lewis Hamilton:
The McLaren man couldn’t have thought of a worst weekend. Third retirement in four races is probably more than one could digest especially at this part of the year and with this sort of situation. However, the brave still proclaimed, “As the saying goes,
I guess that's motor racing. So, there are still four races to go. I'm 20 points behind Mark and that's a reasonable gap but it's not an insurmountable one.”
Adrian Sutil:
As the race ended, the Force India driver talked to the reporters saying, "It was a really hard race today in the heat and the humidity and having to race the whole way - I always had a car following really closely behind.”
Sutil started this race from the 15th place on the grid and wrapped up at ninth, bagging two points for which Sutil said that he was glad for this as well as every single point at this moment is important.
Tonio Liuzzi:
After having a smooth start from sixteenth place on the grid, Tonio Liuzzi collided with Nick Heidfeld and damaged his car’s front wing. Later, he got his rear suspension cracked and finally had to retire from the race pointless, for which he seemed quite
disappointed as he exclaimed, “Anyway, it will be onto Japan now where I hope, we can have a much better race."
