Singapore International Series: Alfian Eko, Gloria Emanuelle move forward to semi-final round
Indonesia’s Alfian Eko Prasetya-Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja remained invincible in quarter-finals of Li-Ning Singapore International Series and earned a place in the top four Mixed Doubles teams on August 16, 2012.
They outclassed Jui Wei Liang-Yu Chin Chien in a hard fought tussle which prolonged for 55 minutes before ending with final result of 19-21, 21-16 and 22-20.
Though, the Indonesian duo received a severe blow in very first game but still they managed to come back from this horrendous start and locked the honour.
Meanwhile, the opposing team squandered their first set effort in ending two games and bid farewell to this International Series.
They started their campaign in perfect manner and fetched a vital match point by beating their challengers with distinction.
In the first half, they were a bit sluggish as they struggled to pick the bird early but a couple of power packed rallies provided them a real boost.
Jui Wei and Yu Chin injected more intensity in their attack and pushed their competitors on the back-foot by grabbing valuable points at steady pace.
Though, they lost grip for a short span of time after the interval but they reinstated their dominance in the third quarter and placed a winning margin of 21-19.
However, the story was entirely different in following game as Alfian and Gloria stormed back into contest with a gutsy performance.
This time they played with great precision and did not give their challengers even a single chance to counter-attack.
The Indonesian campaigners kick-started their progress with a couple of consecutive points and maintained this tempo all the way to the final moments.
They laid foundation of their supremacy with a decent total of 11 before interval and then magnified the impact by registering an overwhelming score of 21-16.
This development turned the decider into a nerve-racking contest as both teams were equal with one win each.
They did not allow each other to gain a permanent lead and remained toe-to-toe until game point situation.
Finally, this race ended when Alfian and Gloria took a giant leap and reached at winning position of 22-20.
Now they will be up against Chayut Triyachart-h*i Ern Ng in semi-final round of the event.
