Singapore Open 2012: Christian John, Mads Pieler topple Fang Chieh, Lee Sheng in pre quarter-finals
Men’s Doubles campaigners Christian John Skovgaard and Mads Pieler Kolding stamped Fang Chieh Min-Lee Sheng Mu to reserve a seat in quarter-finals of Li Ning Singapore Open on June 21, 2012.
This pre quarter-final battle remained in full swing for 51 minutes and got resolved with final results of 18-21, 26-24 and 13-21.
The Danish shuttlers, who were underrated earlier in this Super Series event, amazed everyone with their unbeatable craft and prevailed in opening and concluding segments of the show.
On the other hand, World Number nine duo disappointed their supporters by kneeling down against lower ranked opponents.
Christian John and Mads Pieler laid foundation of this victory by winning very first match point on merit.
They took some time to get settled but they got into commanding position with five valuable points in a row. They maintained this edge all the way to half time and placed a decent total of 11-7 before mid-game break.
Though, they faltered right after the interval and allowed opposing team to level score at 11-11 but this demise was not permanent as they reinstated their supremacy with four nonstop rallies.
The Taipei shuttlers could not lift this burden and surrendered after reading final margin of 18-21.
The second set turned a cliff-hanging fight as both teams snapped each other’s heels throughout this segment. None of them could gain a comfortable advantage until game point situation.
However, Fang Chieh and Lee Sheng brought this contest to right balance by clinching vital match point.
They remained low in start but then couple of power packed rallies took them to a decent total of 11-9 before the interval.
Later part of the game saw both pairs putting all in their possession to oust the opponent. They chased each other until 24-24 but then the Taipei campaigners finished this race with a favourable figure of 26-24.
The decider was supposed to be a tough competition but it turned one-sided affair as Danish couple swept the table with 21-13.
Now they will lock horns with Japanese duo Hiroyuki Endo-Kenichi Hayakawa to proceed into semi-finals of 2012 Singapore Open.
