Singapore Open 2012: Hee Chun, Kok Siang exceed Ronald Susilo, Candra Wijaya in opening round
Men’s Doubles team Hee Chun Mak-Kok Siang Teo of Malaysia stamped Ronald Susilo-Candra Wijaya in opening round of Li Ning Singapore Open and earned a spot in pre quarter-finals on June 20, 2012.
This first round match kept the teams locked for 52 minutes and ended with final figures of 21-15, 12-21 and 21-17.
Though, Malaysians registered their class by grabbing first victory in a splendid manner but real challenge awaits them in next round where they are going to face World Number 10 Chinese pair Hong Wei-Shen Ye.
However, Hee Chun and Kok Siang are fully charged to take on superior rivals to reserve the right to be in the top eight teams of Super Series tournament.
They just have to keep that passion and aggression alive which they showed in their opening match.
The scratch pair did not give their rivals opportunity to establish the grip over battle as they clinched first match point straight away.
Ronald Susilo and Candra Wijaya, who belonged to Singapore and Indonesia respectively, had no reply to their brisk attack and remained at lower end with 6-11 score in first half.
After the interval, Hee Chun and Kok Siang raised this lead to seven points by registering 16-9 margin and then made best out of this advantage by reaching at final position of 21-15.
However, the twosome of Ronald and Candra saved their honour to some extent by grabbing second set of the match.
This time their coordination was superb and they did not show any sign of confusion. They dictated the victorious duo of previous game all the way to the last stage.
In the first half, they got into commanding position by putting staggering figure of 11-6 before the interval and then magnified the impact with 16-9 in third quarter of set.
This seven-point deficit proved final blow for the Malaysians and they surrendered after reading 12-21 margin on the board.
The decider turned survival of the fittest war and both contenders put all in their possession to oust their opponent.
They remained equal until 14-14 but then Hee Chun and Kok Siang finished this race with a favourable total of 21-17.
