Singapore Open 2013: Du Pengyu penetrates into Men’s Singles second round – Badminton news
Du Pengyu, one of the best shuttler from China, started his journey with confidence and advanced into Men’s Singles second round after beating India’s Anand Pawar at Li Ning Singapore Open 2013 on Wednesday, June 19, in Singapore.
The top seed Pengyu, who is currently World Number Three in Men’s Singles standings, proved his highly impressive craft on court by playing flawless badminton. Mustering it further, he commanded the rallies with wonderful ease and easily ended up this first
round encounter in just 30 minutes.
Chinese man was quick and aggressive in his play and he did not let his Indian challenger to take charge at any stage. He sailed smoothly and won this straight-set fight by putting up a superb 21-16 score on the board.
The un-seeded Pawar, on the contrary, showed a few glimpses of his skills but failed to remain consistent. He lost his focus at the concluding half of opening game and could not find a good flow in rest of the contest. Despite trying very hard, Pawar could
not create a strong impact in the arena.
Starting game was interesting when both experienced players locked horns aggressively. They played at their best speed and remained close for the first few points.
Pengyu gradually started to dominate the game by playing with precision. However, he failed to create any significant gap on the board in opening half because his opponent found a good flow and narrowed the gap.
After the one-minute break, Pengyu returned to the court with different things in mind. He started to play net shots frequently, forcing his rival to move forward and lift the bird high in the air. It enabled him to execute powerful smashes and he finally
won the opening game with a comfortable score of 21-16.
In the second game, Pawar was in a different mood as he played to his maximum potential and set up a small lead at the early stage.
However, the top seeded Chinese shuttler gradually narrowed the gap by putting variations into his shots and made the score levelled towards the end of opening half. Until the break, both contestants were toe-to-toe on the scoreboard.
In the concluding half, the in-form Chinese player dominated the game by employing his wonderful experience and easily wrapped up the set with a crushing margin of 21-13.
