Singapore Open: Ajay Jayaram tames Brice Leverdez to surge into Men’s Singles second round
India’s top player Ajay Jayaram got a wonderful start as he tamed Brice Leverdez of France in Men’s Singles first round of 2012 Li Ning Singapore Open Super Series on Wednesday, June 20, in Singapore.
The spirited Jayaram, who has been positioned at number 23 in Men’s Singles world standings, showed his incredible craft in the court and overwhelmed his French opponent with an impressive ease.
The higher ranked Jayaram was too strong for Leverdez in all aspects of the game as he did not face any problem in winning the match in straight games by working for just 31 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, the lower ranked Leverdez could not match the impressive skills of his Indian challenger and also failed to get any advantage from his powerful smashes as Jayaram’s defence was impressive. The French lost the match in two games with a
huge margin.
In the first game, Jayaram gave a punishing treatment to the French shuttlers as the Indian played aggressive badminton without wasting any time and managed an incredible 11-6 lead on the score board until the one-minute break.
After the mid-game interval, Leverdez tried to show his brilliance by executing powerful shots but failed to break the flow of his rival who was in commanding position.
Jayaram was calm and collected in the court as he played with impressive precision and won the first game with a remarkable 21-12 margin on the score board.
In the second game, Leverdez again failed to stop his higher ranked Indian rival from taking a reasonable lead as he could not control the pace of rallies.
In the meanwhile, Jayaram was composed as he did not show any sign of confusion and took an 11-7 lead until the mid-game interval.
After the one-minute break, the young Indian continued his roller-coaster performance without making errors and easily grabbed the second set with a staggering 21-14 score on the board.
The in-form Jayaram showed his class while playing against Leverdez and won the first round battle in two games with a lopsided margin of 21-12 and 21-14.
