Singapore Open: Andre Kurniawan Tedjono tames Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif in qualifying round contest
Indonesia’s upcoming shuttler Andre Kurniawan Tedjono showed his class as he penetrated into Men’s Singles main round after taming Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif of Malaysia in qualifying round battle at the 2012 Singapore Open Super Series in Singapore, on Tuesday,
June 19.
Tedjono, who was ranked at number three in Men’s Singles qualifying round, showed his aggression while playing attacking badminton and stamped his mark over young Malaysian rival in a sensational way.
The higher ranked Tedjono played superb badminton and proved his skills as he did not drop any game and ended the match in straight sets with a decent score on the board.
In the meanwhile, the lower ranked Arif played attacking badminton and gave a good fight to his Indonesian opponent but failed to live up to expectations in the ending points and lost the match in two games in 41 minutes.
In the first game, both young shuttlers put up a spirited display by playing aggressive badminton and also pushed each other in all corners. Until the one-minute break, the score was quite close on the board.
After the break, Tedjono changed his strategy and played impressive net shots which forced Arif to lift the bird high in the air and the Indonesian executed jumping smashes to take advantage in the game.
Tedjono was ahead on the score board as he played with impressive speed and controlled the pace of rallies while remaining focused.
The Indonesian did not let Arif to fight back in the opening set by keeping the pace at the maximum level and eventually took the game with a margin of 21-16.
In the second game, Arif played positively this time as he did not repeat the mistakes that he made in the first game. He did not let his Indonesian opponent to set up lead until the one-minute interval.
After the break, the score continued in the similar thrilling fashion as both men played positive badminton and reached at 20-20 when Tedjono executed smart strokes and took the set with a 22-20 score on the board.
Tedjono managed to end up this Men’s Singles fight in 41 minutes with a decent score of 21-16 and 22-20.
