Singapore Open: Boonsak Ponsana beats Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka in a thrilling quarter-final fight
Thailand’s Boonsak Ponsana found a wonderful flow and stormed into Men’s Singles semi-final after beating the higher ranked Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka of Indonesia in a thrilling quarter-final contest at the Singapore Open Super Series 2012 on Friday, June
22, in Singapore.
The experienced Thai shuttler, who is positioned at number 32 in the world, worked really hard and got the prize by beating the World Number 19 Rumbaka in a sensational fight with a close margin on the board.
The lower ranked Ponsana proved that he is back on track after passing through the worst bad patch of his professional career for almost two years and reached into the semi-final of Super Series event by ending the winning run of his Indonesian opponent
in three games.
On the other hand, the higher ranked Rumbaka was impressive in the first set as he spared no chance to earn points and won it with a tight margin. However, could not cope up with the perfection of Ponsana in the following game and lost the match in rubber
games in 64 minutes.
In the first game, Ponsana played in a commanding manner in the opening half and set up a good lead against his rival by reaching at 11-8 until the break.
After the break, the Indonesian geared up and pushed his rival in all areas of the court and levelled the score. He continued his inspiring run and took a sensational lead of 18-14.
Ponsana tried his level best to stop the aggression of his Indonesian opponent but failed and lost the set with a tight score of 21-23.
In the following set, Ponsana became furious as he played with impressive precision and did not let his rival to show even meagre resistance. He grabbed the second game with a spectacular 21-7 score on the board.
In the final game, Ponsana remained ahead of his Indonesian opponent in the opening points but Rumbaka powered his way back and ended the gap until the break.
After the interval, both men played at their best and reached at the ending points when Ponsana took over the control and earned the finishing points to win the set with a 21-18 score on the board.
The lower ranked Ponsana won this quarter-final battle in 64 minutes with a margin of 21-23, 21-7 and 21-18.
