Singapore Open: Boonsak Ponsana ousts R. M. V. Gurusaidutt to storm into Men’s Singles quarter-final
Thailand’s most experienced player Boonsak Ponsana showed his elite craft and stormed into quarter-final after crushing India’s emerging player R. M. V. Gurusaidutt in Men’s Singles round-of-16 showdown at the Singapore Open Super Series 2012 on Thursday,
June 21, in Singapore.
The World Number 32 Ponsana, who has been struggling hard to find a good touch for the last two years, proved his class in the court as he easily registered a comprehensive win over Gurusaidutt who is currently placed at number 50 in Men’s Singles world
placements.
Ponsana proved that he is back on track as he played aggressive badminton against the Indian and easily overpowered him in two games with a huge margin on the score board by taking just 31 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Gurusaidutt failed to cope up with the tricky play of his higher ranked Thai opponent and easily bowed down to him without winning any set in this lopsided battle.
The in-form Ponsana was in full swing as he started his campaign in the match in an authoritative way. He dictated the pace of rallies by taking the bird early from all areas and managed to take an 11-7 lead until the break.
After the one-minute interval, the Indian tried to show his craft but failed to break the flow of his rival and remained struggling.
In the meanwhile, Ponsana continued his focused play throughout the opening set and he bagged it without facing any trouble with a stunning difference of 21-12.
In the second game, Ponsana again was on driving seat as he showed no mercy to his lower ranked Indian opponent and took a staggering lead of 11-3 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Gurusaidutt tried to match the pace of rallies but failed to disturb the flow of his Thai opponent who was in impressive form.
Ponsana controlled the pace of the game in the entire second set and ended it up with a one-sided 21-8 score on the board.
The higher ranked Ponsana emerged as winner in this pre-quarter-final battle with a huge margin of 21-12 and 21-8.
