Singapore Open: Johannes Schoettler and Johanna Goliszewski advance into main round – Badminton news
Germany players, Johannes Schoettler and Johanna Goliszewski, maintained their positive run in Mixed Doubles qualifying round and advanced into the main round of Li Ning Singapore Open 2013, which is in progress at Singapore.
In their last contest in qualifying round, the in-form Schoettler and Goliszewski easily beat England’s Andrew Ellis and Lauren Smith on Tuesday, June 18, in Singapore.
With this second victory in the qualifying round of Singapore Open, the German couple proved that they are ready to prove their worth in the main round of this Super Series championship.
The impressive Schoettler and Goliszewski, who played top class badminton in the opening contest in qualifying round, lived up to the expectations as they remained in command and overpowered their English rivals in just 29 minutes.
Schoettler and Goliszewski showed their aggression on court as they played attacking badminton throughout the contest and won it easily with a reasonable 21-17 and 21-17 score on the board.
On the other hand, Andrew and Lauren failed to maintain their rhythm against their German challengers. They could not deal with the mounting pressure and lost the match in straight games.
In the starting set, both sides played remarkable badminton and remained neck-to-neck at the initial stage. However, the impressive Schoettler and Goliszewski controlled the affairs by dominating the game at net and stayed in command until the one-minute
interval.
After the interval, Schoettler and Goliszewski continued getting advantage of their tricky play. They did not show any mercy to their opponents at any stage and clinched the first set with a decent 21-17 score on the board.
In the following set, the aggressive Andrew and Lauren tried to put variations in their shots and also changed their tactics but failed to push their German rivals on back foot. They remained struggling until the end of opening half.
After the one-minute break, both sides progressed closely but Schoettler and Goliszewski geared up their speed and took over the control. They played flawless badminton in ending points and won the game with a reasonable 21-18 total on the score board.
