Singapore Open: Sung Ji Hyun overpowers Eriko Hirose in Women’s Singles quarter-final
Korea’s in-form shuttler Sung Ji Hyun continued her impressive winning streak as she reached into Women’s Singles semi-final after beating Japan’s Eriko Hirose in a tough quarter-final clash at the Li Ning Singapore Open Super Series 2012 in Singapore, on
Friday, June 22.
The third seeded Ji Hyun, who has been positioned at number 8 in Women’s Singles world ranking, worked really hard and remained successful in beating her stubborn Japanese rival in a sensational fight.
The higher ranked Korean took the first set easily but failed to maintain her dominating run in the following set. However, she fought back in the final set and wrapped it up to register a wonderful victory.
On the other hand, Hirose could not put up good show in the starting set but failed to play positively in the following sets and bowed down to her higher ranked Korean opponent in a thrilling rubber-set quarter-final fight.
In the first set, Ji Hyun played positive and commanding game and remained successful in taking a reasonable lead on the score board until the one-minute break.
After the interval, the higher ranked Korean remained positive and aggressive as she did not let her Japanese opponent to narrow the game and eventually took the game with a wonderful margin of 21-14.
In the second game, it was a completely different story as Hirose played elevated badminton this time and did not let Ji Hyun to build lead. She was miles ahead on the board until the break.
After the interval, the third seeded Ji Hyun tried to play competitive badminton but failed to live up to expectations and lost the set with a one-sided score of 10-21.
In the final set, Ji Hyun found her momentum back and established a wonderful gap until the mid-game interval.
After the one-minute break, Ji Hyun remained positive and composed as she did not show any mercy to her rival and won the set with a spectacular margin of 21-13.
Ji Hyun overpowered her Japanese rival after putting up wonderful show for three games with a 21-14, 10-21 and 21-13 score on the board.
