Singapore Open Super Series: Sony Dwi Kuncoro powers his way into Men’s Singles main round
Indonesia’s in-form male shuttler Sony Dwi Kuncoro powers his way into Men’s Singles main round after toppling Belgium’s Yuhan Tan in the qualifying round of the 2012 Singapore Open Super Series in Singapore, on Tuesday, June 19.
The World Number 45 Kuncoro, who has been delivering spectacular performance for the last two months, found a perfect start in Singapore Open and overpowered Yuhan to find his place in the main round.
The aggressive Indonesian showed his elite skills in the court while playing against Yuhan and defeated him in straight games without facing any trouble in just 33 minutes.
In the meanwhile, the fourth seeded Yuhan could not live up to expectations as he failed to show his brilliance against his Indonesian opponent and bowed down to him without creating a strong impact.
Kuncoro, the winner of 2012 Thailand Open GP Gold, was calm and collected in the court as he played planned badminton and managed a small lead at the early stage.
In the meanwhile, Yuhan played attacking badminton but failed to take advantage as he could not break the defence of his Indonesian rival.
Kuncoro unleashed his powerful shots and took a three-point lead by reaching at 11-8 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, the Indonesian kept manoeuvring all loopholes of his Belgian rival without facing any considerable resistance and won the set easily with a sensational 21-12 score on the board.
In the second game, it was the Belgian who found a good flow by changing his tactics and started to play positive badminton. He was in complete control this time and set up an impressive lead against his Indonesian rival by reaching at 11-7.
However, Kuncoro became aggressive after the mid-game interval and he started to target the side lines of the court.
The power play of Kuncoro helped him to end the domination of his opponent and the score became levelled at 14-14.
Kuncoro showed his class at this stage of the second game and thrashed his Belgian challenger easily by grabbing the game with a margin of 21-16.
The impressive Indonesian won this qualifying round battle in just 33 minutes with a 21-12 and 21-16 score on the board.
