Singapore whitewashes Taiwan by 6-0 in the Under-18 Junior Asia Cup: Hockey News
Singapore’s junior side defeated Taiwan today, June 23, by 6-0 in the Under-18 Junior Asia Cup, which is currently underway at the Sengkang Stadium in Singapore.
In the opening minutes of the first half, Taiwan was on the front-foot making attacks at the defensive circle of Singapore, however, the opponent’s goal-keeper, Samudra, made good saves for his team.
After some time, Singapore received a short-corner award that went wasted due to weak execution. However, Taipei were again on the go with the ball possession in the circle, but was again blocked by Samudra.
Until the first fifteen minutes, both the teams failed to open up scores despite a high-paced play from both the ends.
The spectators cheered their host team, while the left offensive wing rushed towards Taipei’s circle for a goal-attack. Disappointingly, the scoring chance was missed over a strong defender’s block from the Chinese side. Singapore’s Silas made a reverse-stick
attempt into the net, but went past the right corner of the goal-post, keeping the score-board score-less.
In the second half, Singapore’s Rahmat flipped a shot into the right corner of the net, but was saved by the Chinese goal-keeper, Hsien Yi. However, Singapore continued to attempt scoring chances over the opponent’s net, but the defensive wing of Chinese
Taipei denied each of Rahmat’s shot. As a result, the first half closed with a deadlock at 0-0.
In the second half, Singapore proved stronger in their attacks when Haseef bin Salim scored the first goal in the early minutes. In no time, Taiwan was awarded with a penalty-corner, but was the effort went in vain.
Soon, Singapore scored the second goal, as a result of a tap attempted by Rahmat over a deflected shot. The Chinese counter-parts hardly managed near the defensive circle of the host team, but were denied when Singapore’s defender cleared the shot out of
the circle. In no time, came the third goal from Nur Asriq as a result of a drag flick into the top right of the goal.
The last two goals were delivered by Haseef and Nur Ashriq, until the final whistle was blown, declaring the win for Singapore at 6-0 over Chinese Taipei.
