Singapore’s Kimberly Lim and Ryan Lo dominate at the 2011 Harken Invitational Regatta: Day 2
Second day of the 2011 Harken Invitational Regatta was completely dominated by Singaporean sailors, Kimberly Lim and Ryan Lo, who earned 14 and 18 points respectively at the conclusion of Day 2 to claim the first two podium places. The second day of the
regatta finished quite successfully under ideal wind conditions.
The weather conditions on Day 2 were shifty but it did not affect proceedings at all as top sailors from around the world completed three scheduled races on the second day. Lim and Lo clinched one bullet each on the second day’s racing to make their way
to the top.
Countless spectators gathered at the race venue to support their favourite sailors. Yachting New Zealand provided several Optimist Dinghies to the public and invited them to enjoy sailing.
Meanwhile, New Zealand’s Leonard Takahashi-Fry, the best placed New Zealand Team Sailor in the regatta, finished on seventh place in the overall standings. Despite a low finish, Kiwi sailors have set their hopes high for the race.
According to Kiwi coach and 2007 OptiWorld Champion, Chris Steele, the squad is focusing on the World Championships and is satisfied with their result in the regatta so far. The main goal of many sailing teams was to familiarise sailors with New Zealand-style
weather conditions.
