Question:

Singer 3962 Thread Catching Under face plate...

I was quilting and my thread kept breaking. I removed the face plate and removed lint from the bobbin case, feed dogs, and surrounding bobbin area.

There was what looked like lint in a little hole under the bobbin, but it turned out to be an inch long "wick" filled with oil when I pulled it out. I pushed it back into the hole with very sharp tipped scissors and it looks like it did before.

Now, when I try to sew, my thread keeps balling up under the face plate and it appears that the top thread is catching on a part that I believe is called a position finger (I never moved this part when I cleaned out the lint, so it shouldn't be getting in the way?) I have changed needles, fabric, and rethreaded both the top and bobbin threads several times and the top thread keeps balling up under the face plate.

Does anyone know what is going on? Do I have to take my machine in for sewing machine repair just because I cleaned out the lint?

Thanks for any help :)
