For goodness' sake, JUST WATCH THE FILM.  It's gorgeous, one of the best musical films ever made and it will answer a lot of your questions, or at least give you very good signposts as to what you need to look for to find the answers.  Wikipedia is your friend - there's answers to some of your questions there - I've just found them very easily, but I am not going to do your homework for you, and you shouldn't expect anyone else to do it for you either!
