I am a single mom on subsidized housing. Just completed my Associate degree and work for a non profit agency. Great job, free daycare in the summer, get off early enough to get children from school so I don't have to pay daycare. My car engine blew up, I have never had a car payment can't afford one...but this has blindsided me. I don't have money to fix right now and am driving a work car temp.

Should I get a car on a payment or how can I get some money to get a new engine. Remember I am on section 8 so they don't allow excess money to save...they take it for my rent

  1. Hey! I think that due to your situation you may apply for a personal loan to replace the engine. Other than checking with a local bank, I would also check out modestneeds.org or prosper.com ... Modestneeds specializes in situations such as yours but I believe it may take a little more time than you have. Prosper is a peer2peer lending service.

Other than attempting to take out a loan my other suggestion would be simply to look into an easy-credit car lot-- I'm not sure which types they have in your area but most areas do have them.

As far as obtaining the motor iteself-- You can check online for crate engines, call local shops or even local salvage yards to try to get motors out of wrecked vehicles. If that is all too overwhelming for you, just go to a shop once you've got money in hand and see what type of deal they can work out for you.

    Hope this helped!
